It’s been a while since I’ve read straight fantasy ya and this was nice。 Great world building, strong character growth and solid plot。 I felt that some things in this book were over exaggerated and I hated all the miscommunication the main characters had, but love the alternate pov’s。 Would recommend to new reader!

The Queen's Assassin is an amazing book written by the even more amazing Melissa de la Crus。 I was drawn to this book because of the author ( I have read many of her other books ) and she did not disappoint。 Love, danger and secrets, this book has all the things that make a great book and more。 The only reason I didn't give it a 5 out of 5 stars was because like many teen books, the love story was predictable but aside from that I thought it was a great book。 The Queen's Assassin is an amazing book written by the even more amazing Melissa de la Crus。 I was drawn to this book because of the author ( I have read many of her other books ) and she did not disappoint。 Love, danger and secrets, this book has all the things that make a great book and more。 The only reason I didn't give it a 5 out of 5 stars was because like many teen books, the love story was predictable but aside from that I thought it was a great book。 。。。more

This book was so good except the ending if this ending had a face I would punch it so hard I would break it’s nose。 The romance was amazing until the stupid ending it ruined everything like I am so angry right now。 The cliffhanger was a very mean thing for the author to write because there are many questions I still have。 The next book better start with exactly the last sentence in this book ends with I should open the first page of the next book and it will just be the next thing to happen no t This book was so good except the ending if this ending had a face I would punch it so hard I would break it’s nose。 The romance was amazing until the stupid ending it ruined everything like I am so angry right now。 The cliffhanger was a very mean thing for the author to write because there are many questions I still have。 The next book better start with exactly the last sentence in this book ends with I should open the first page of the next book and it will just be the next thing to happen no time should pass in between these books。 That might not have made sense but it made sense to me so I don’t care。 Also one thing I didn’t like about this book was that is was dual pov I liked that part but in the girls perspective it was first person and in the guys it was third person I thought that was annoying because it would be like I did this and then in the next chapter it would be like he did this。 。。。more

very very very slow。 i was hoping for so much more with the enemies to lovers trope but i was sorely disappointed。 it had instant love which i didn’t like, i feel like the tension just went away。 it wasn’t very good plot and there was little to no character development。 i just don’t know on this one。 i spent an awfully long time reading it and it wasn’t working out for me so in my opinion it’s not worth your time。

Although somewhat predictable, this book was great。 The ending left me frustrated and thankful I have the second part within reach。 Overall a very good read。

I think I would’ve liked this a lot more if I read it when I was younger

2/5It was alright。 Personally I found it hard to get into the story。 That could be because I read so many other books while reading this one。 I found it somewhat slow in the beginning。

I want to start off this review by saying this book wasn’t bad or good。 It was mediocre。 Firstly, the point of views were jarring and took me out of it every time there was a shift。 Shadow’s POV was in first person, while Cal’s was in third person。 Point of view shifts do work well when done correctly and it could have worked between the two characters; however, it didn’t because of the first and third person point of view shifts。The romance to me felt rushed and out of place。 There were some bi I want to start off this review by saying this book wasn’t bad or good。 It was mediocre。 Firstly, the point of views were jarring and took me out of it every time there was a shift。 Shadow’s POV was in first person, while Cal’s was in third person。 Point of view shifts do work well when done correctly and it could have worked between the two characters; however, it didn’t because of the first and third person point of view shifts。The romance to me felt rushed and out of place。 There were some bits that I did enjoy in it, but most of the time it was out of place and didn’t make sense。The plot twists were mediocre。 I wasn’t able to guess them, but they are so overused that I am not shocked that it happened。The pacing was all over the place。 The beginning was slow, which works, and then the middle was quick and all over the place。 Things were happening too quick and then it would come to a halting stop and it would be agonizing to get through。 The ending was very rushed too and then a sequel was set up。Characters were your standard strong woman with powers who is overly annoying and just wants to prove herself or the mysterious brooding male love interest with skills in sword fighting。 This book was the same standard Mary Sue type book with a bland forced love interest。 It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t great。 There were times when I was super into the book and there were times where I wanted to just return the book to the library without finishing it。 I recommend this book, but only as something to read if there is nothing else to read。 。。。more

It felt too juvenile and the writing was uninspiring。

Was the twist actually supposed to be shocking because it was obvious from the beginning…。also how do you go undercover using the shortened version of your names and then be surprised you got caught……。 lol

The storyline in this is what saved it from having a lower ranking。 I really did love the plot but I definitely agree with previous reviews that we've seen it all before - and I'm not really mad about that。I'm mad about the fact that Shadow's POV is told in the 1st person and Cal's POV is told in the 3rd。 What is that about? For me, I read books in the 1st and 3rd person very differently and having to change my reading style every chapter or so is pretty damn distracting。 Especially considering The storyline in this is what saved it from having a lower ranking。 I really did love the plot but I definitely agree with previous reviews that we've seen it all before - and I'm not really mad about that。I'm mad about the fact that Shadow's POV is told in the 1st person and Cal's POV is told in the 3rd。 What is that about? I don't understand why this choice was made。However, if I overlook this not so little fact, it was a fun and easy fantasy read - with all the tropes you'd ever need。 Yeah, Cal and Shadow's love wasn't that convincing but I definitely ended up rooting for them。 What can I say? I'm a sucker for a HEA。 。。。more

Because after their marriage he's totally disinterested but he's down bad for her when she's in disguise。 Never explained Me, three chapters in: It's obvious shadow is the princess。 Also me, when she's revealed to be the princess and cannot be with Cal: *surprised pikachu face*This book was nothing groundbreaking but it was FUN。 Its a nice little not-quite-enemies to lovers (rivals to lovers maybe?) with a LOT of action。 I'm still confused about like。。。 did King Hansen KNOW it was her all along? This wasn’t it…。 If it wasn’t for the fact that I try my hardest to not DNF books I would have 100% added this to that pile。 There was zero pull into the characters, into the world or even into the story line。 It was flat, boring and I truly felt like there was just too much of the back and forth on who was talking。 There is even one chapter where Cal is supposed to be the point that we are reading from but somehow it got mixed up with Shadow’s point。 How that was missed in editing is beyond me。 This wasn’t it…。 If it wasn’t for the fact that I try my hardest to not DNF books I would have 100% added this to that pile。 There was zero pull into the characters, into the world or even into the story line。 It was flat, boring and I truly felt like there was just too much of the back and forth on who was talking。 There is even one chapter where Cal is supposed to be the point that we are reading from but somehow it got mixed up with Shadow’s point。 How that was missed in editing is beyond me。 There was simply too much first-person conversation and no communication with the characters。 We finally started getting some banter towards the end of the book, but it needs to be at the beginning。 There are two main characters, Shadow and Cal。 Shadow is of nobility but has been hidden away by her mom since birth to protect her。 She lives a simple life with a part time mom。 Her aunts predominately raise her and in turn try to train her on her magic。 Shadow knows who she is and what her end responsibilities will be but wants to be within the guild。 It’s unclear exactly who the guild is under, I believe it’s the queen but if they are assassins/spies then wouldn’t they be trained by for all kingdoms in some way? Anyways that is all shadow truly wants and believes that Cal is her way out。Cal is the other main character。 The queen’s assassin but then gets in trouble protecting the Queens kingdom。 How? Why? The whole story started off by the way with his father having a life bond with the queen in search of the Scrolls, but I will be the first to tell you there barely anything regarding those! Cal is trying to live his life by doing her bidding and finding those scrolls, but I would say there is maybe a max of 5% of the book in which they are actually trying to find the scrolls。 。。。more

I really enjoyed how this story was woven。 Parts of it are predictable yet still entertaining I will for sure go onto the next book! Filled with adventure a touch of romance。 NO detailed sex scenes, but there is sex in the book。 Nothing more than PG13 at worse。

Why does every YA book like this have to follow a similar script? It seems like all have to have at least some type of peril, no happy endings, endings that are not really resolved (therefore leaving room for sequels of a mediocre book), and finally at least one character that is openly LGBTQ or a LGBTQ couple。 Would love to see an author not fall into this recipe for a book and to write something that is truly unique and imaginative。
